Hecho en Mazatlan II: An Exhibition of Prints Featuring Local & Interantional Aritsts

Hecho en Mazatlan II (Made in Mazatlan II)  opened at Luna Gallery on Wednesday March 2 and is up through March 26.  The exhibition is aptly named because all of the mostly monotype prints were created in the Mazatlan studio of Glen Rogers.  Each of the 35 participating artists have one piece included in the show and it really shows the diversity of the monotype process. Many of the artists visited Mazatlan to take Glen's Monotype in Mazatlan workshop, but a few like Katherine Levin-Lau, Larry Poole and Nancy Brossard were guest artists. But make no mistake - this is not "just a student show". Many of the artists who are from Mexico, Canada and all across  the U.S. are very accomplished in their own right.

Valentine Exhibition

The Valentine Invitational is up and running at LUNA. Kicked off with a lively reception jammed with visitors with most everyone wearing their red attire. Hearts were all over the walls with valentines created by guest artists Claudia Gallardo, Carlos Z., Cecilia Sanchez Duarte, Ann Hankel, Billie, Marianna K.C., Karen von Felten, Elina Chauvet, Rossana Ferreri, Maria Dory Perdomo, Cecilia Garcia Mornes, Mike Fitzpatrick, and stable artists David Robb, Nan Robb, Mark Jay, Lucila Santiago, Rafael Avila, and Glen Rogers.

On display in the main gallery is ROJO, an exhibition of larger paintings and prints in various shades of red by Pablo Martinez Corpus, Mark Jay, Lucila Santiago, Rafael Avila, and David Robb and Glen Rogers.

Blanco y Negro, a new exhibition at Luna Gallery, opens Wednesday January 5. The opening reception for the public is 6 to 8pm. The show features a variety of work from abstract to realism by Mark R. Jay, David Robb, Lucila Santiago, Nan Robb, Glen Rogers, Rafael Avila Tirado, and Karen von Felten. Paintings, prints and drawings range from bold graphic, high-contrast black and white to subtle tonal variations on the grayscale.

Karen von Felten, a California artist currently living in San Miguel de Allende shows her exquisite charcoal drawings of women's garments. Her “Wedding Dragon”, 96 inches by 51”, is a showstopper. Lucila Santiago, well known for her distinctive abstract paintings, shows new work from her Sideral Shipyard series. Glen Rogers exhibits images of her ‘Vessels’, a large charcoal drawing as well as monotypes that speak of ancient cultures and their rituals. David Robb exhibits his famous PIGS - oil on canvas, this time in a grid of 9, as well as an interesting collaged chair installation. Rafael Avila's bold and wonderful woodcuts of children flying through the air are something to see! Mark Jay's monotypes printed on found book pages (Expatriate in Spanish) hark back to Bauhaus forms and graphics. Nan Robb's minature monotypes of antique toys evokes nostalgia for a bygone era. It's an interesting show - one not to miss!

A Percentage of LUNA Sales Goes to Support a Women's Shelter

At Luna: Arte Contemporaneo, a percentage of sales goes to C.A.V.I.. a safe haven for women of domestic violence. We will be giving out first check to C.A.V.I. in January! Thank you to our patrons for helping to support this cause through your purchases.

C.A.V.I. has an office on Calle Ejercito Mexicano where they have various types of support for women and children. They have individual and group therapy as well as legal advice. They also maintain 2 safe houses where 27 women and their children can stay.
