Jack DeVore's Elastic Symbolism at Luna Gallery

 I am happy to have the opportunity to exhibit some of Jack DeVore's artwork at Luna. Thanks to Gordon Gilkey and Mick McCarthy for lending works from their collection to be a part of the Transformations exhibition.

A little about Jack: Jack DeVore was a fixture around Mazatlan for many years.  He always told me that he came here to die, having various health problems that he didn't think he'd overcome. But once here, in this beautiful paradise, he literally found a new lease on life.  Jack continued making his art, which he had labeled Elastic Symbolism in California back in the 50's. Working with found objects, he turned junk found on the street into metaphors and often witty one liners. He always had something in progress on his workbench. He was delighted to be apart of the First Fridays Artwalk, opening his home studio to visitors and talking about his work and his guest artists.

You could often catch Jack having a beer at sunset at Puerto Viejo, always ready with a smile, a witticism, a laugh. Jack's death in 2010 was commemorated on Olas Altas Beach, a fitting farewell with shots of tequila all around.  He will be missed by many but his art lives on.

Hecho en Mazatlan II: An Exhibition of Prints Featuring Local & Interantional Aritsts

Hecho en Mazatlan II (Made in Mazatlan II)  opened at Luna Gallery on Wednesday March 2 and is up through March 26.  The exhibition is aptly named because all of the mostly monotype prints were created in the Mazatlan studio of Glen Rogers.  Each of the 35 participating artists have one piece included in the show and it really shows the diversity of the monotype process. Many of the artists visited Mazatlan to take Glen's Monotype in Mazatlan workshop, but a few like Katherine Levin-Lau, Larry Poole and Nancy Brossard were guest artists. But make no mistake - this is not "just a student show". Many of the artists who are from Mexico, Canada and all across  the U.S. are very accomplished in their own right.

Valentine Exhibition

The Valentine Invitational is up and running at LUNA. Kicked off with a lively reception jammed with visitors with most everyone wearing their red attire. Hearts were all over the walls with valentines created by guest artists Claudia Gallardo, Carlos Z., Cecilia Sanchez Duarte, Ann Hankel, Billie, Marianna K.C., Karen von Felten, Elina Chauvet, Rossana Ferreri, Maria Dory Perdomo, Cecilia Garcia Mornes, Mike Fitzpatrick, and stable artists David Robb, Nan Robb, Mark Jay, Lucila Santiago, Rafael Avila, and Glen Rogers.

On display in the main gallery is ROJO, an exhibition of larger paintings and prints in various shades of red by Pablo Martinez Corpus, Mark Jay, Lucila Santiago, Rafael Avila, and David Robb and Glen Rogers.
