Exhibiting local and International Artists
Exhibiting local and International Artists
Luna is the only Contemporary Art Gallery in Mazatlan’s Centro Historico that deals exclusively in Fine Art. Housed in a newly renovated historic building in the heart of Old Town, Luna showcases paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture by local and international artists: a collective that encircles abstract to realism.

Luna to Resume Regular Hours in November
Luna Gallery closes its doors for the summer and will reopen in November with new works and an enthusiasm to share them with you. (But you are always welcome to call for a private viewing - 176-5266.!)
Why? Because Mazatlan practically shuts down in the summer because of the heat and humidity. The ex-pats go back up north or find a place in Mexico with a cooler climate and the locals travel or stay close to home. Tourism here is almost non-existent between July and September.
I will go to Oaxaca for the month of July with the intent of creating new artwork. I plan on working in a print shop there and doing painting in the studio that I am renting. Travel is always good for rejuvenating the spirit and focusing on the year ahead. I also look forward to meeting artists in Oaxaca that I can show next season.
Thanks to all of the visitors who entered LUNA during our first season, to the patrons who purchased works of art, to the lovers of art who showed their appreciation. We will continue to strive to bring you the best of local and international artists.
Have a great summer!

Reception of Visiones y Obesesiones
For the last exhibition of the Season, Luna Gallery has a group exhibition by gallery artists: Glen Rogers, David Robb, Nan Robb, Mark Jay, Lucila Santiago and Rafael Avila. Entitled 'Visiones y Obesesiones'/'Visions and Obsessions', the show encapsulates the season's best paintings, prints and drawings by the featured artists. Because Mazatlan's high season ends in May, the gallery will close for the summer after this show. The show will be up through May 28.

Lanny Garland from Patzcauro:
"Somewhere between tribal and urban throw-away cultures, Lannys' work is born. He uses things from nature... seed pods, shells and bamboo along with recycled and found objects such as bottle caps, plastic containers and antique beads... His creations honor both the planet and its' people..."

Jack DeVore's Elastic Symbolism at Luna Gallery
I am happy to have the opportunity to exhibit some of Jack DeVore's artwork at Luna. Thanks to Gordon Gilkey and Mick McCarthy for lending works from their collection to be a part of the Transformations exhibition.
A little about Jack: Jack DeVore was a fixture around Mazatlan for many years. He always told me that he came here to die, having various health problems that he didn't think he'd overcome. But once here, in this beautiful paradise, he literally found a new lease on life. Jack continued making his art, which he had labeled Elastic Symbolism in California back in the 50's. Working with found objects, he turned junk found on the street into metaphors and often witty one liners. He always had something in progress on his workbench. He was delighted to be apart of the First Fridays Artwalk, opening his home studio to visitors and talking about his work and his guest artists.
You could often catch Jack having a beer at sunset at Puerto Viejo, always ready with a smile, a witticism, a laugh. Jack's death in 2010 was commemorated on Olas Altas Beach, a fitting farewell with shots of tequila all around. He will be missed by many but his art lives on.
You can see more of his work at this website:

Hecho en Mazatlan II: An Exhibition of Prints Featuring Local & Interantional Aritsts
Hecho en Mazatlan II (Made in Mazatlan II) opened at Luna Gallery on Wednesday March 2 and is up through March 26. The exhibition is aptly named because all of the mostly monotype prints were created in the Mazatlan studio of Glen Rogers. Each of the 35 participating artists have one piece included in the show and it really shows the diversity of the monotype process. Many of the artists visited Mazatlan to take Glen's Monotype in Mazatlan workshop, but a few like Katherine Levin-Lau, Larry Poole and Nancy Brossard were guest artists. But make no mistake - this is not "just a student show". Many of the artists who are from Mexico, Canada and all across the U.S. are very accomplished in their own right.
